On May 11, 2021, in order to improve the quality of postgraduate education and enhance scientific research, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences invited Ms. Liu Chongjiao, Associate Research Librarian of Jilin University, to explain the basic retrieval functions of PubMed and its application in scientific research. Professor Wang Yi, Deputy Dean of the School, presided at the lecture. The lecture was broadcast live through Tencent Meeting. Teachers and postgraduates in 2019 and 2020 attended the lecture online and offline.

At this lecture, Ms. Liu explained how to conduct literature research in face of a new scientific research project, how to split and analyze a subject and find out the keywords accurately, and further build retrieval expressions, so as to efficiently retrieve, analyze, and screen target literature. She introduced the PubMed database retrieval rules and its Clinical Queries tool. With the research project named “Study on High-throughput Large-scale Single-cell Sequencing Technology Combined with Microfluidics” as an example, she specifically analyzed how to use PubMed to search and compared the differences between MeSH terms and entry terms in terms of search, making teachers and students more clear about the advantages and characteristics of the two methods.

The lecture enabled students to understand the important role of literature retrieval in scientific research in different stages, improved the ability of teachers and students to use literature retrieval tools. It will definitely help the School to improve the quality of postgraduate education, probe into the academic front, advance the progress of scientific research projects, and yield high-level papers.
