In order to promote the construction of national first-class courses, deepen the reform of teaching mode and method in the context of “new medical science”, improve education and teaching quality of the School and fulfill the mission to nurture students, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences held a special lecture on course development on September 27. The guest lecturer, Professor Wang Yishu, shared his report on “Creating Online Golden Course and Its Application in Teaching”. The meeting was presided by Guan Qingxiang, deputy dean in charge of teaching affairs. Party Secretary Qu Yuanli, Deputy Dean Wang Yi, Cao Xia and more than 40 teachers attended the lecture.

Qu Yuanli first expressed his warm welcome and thanks to Professor Wang on behalf of the School for fitting a special lecture into his busy schedule. Professor Wang is the deputy director of Teaching Committee of Jilin University, director of Teaching Committee of Norman Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University, and deputy executive director of Medical Education Research and Faculty Development Center of Jilin University. Professor Wang explained and analyzed prevalent difficulties of current course content construction, such as poor understanding, lack of adequate methods and insufficient profoundness. Starting from the construction and development history of national first-class courses, he elaborated on the classification of first-class course construction, how to strengthen it and how to carry out ideological and political guidance. He took his pathology class as an example to show teachers the exploration and practice of B-teaching. A lot of experience was also shared on how to refine and detail professional knowledge, promote students’ preview and review by MOOC, improve students’ participation and motivation in class, integrate IT into teaching and realize student-centeredness. Professor Wang gave answers to all teachers’ questions patiently, and two hours passed quickly. In the end, Deputy Dean Guan Qingxiang thanked Professor Wang again for his wonderful report and encouraged teachers to actively carry out teaching reform, make innovations in class design and continuously solve the sore points in teaching, for the purpose of substantially improving education and teaching quality and fulfilling the mission to nurture students in the context of the construction of national first-class courses.

Teachers participated actively in the lecture, and some of them rushed to the venue after giving classes to undergraduate students without having lunch. Through this report, teachers of the School gained a deeper understanding of course construction and ideological education, developed clearer direction and ideas on building first-class courses, and learned approaches and enhanced confidence for building first-class courses. The School would take this report as an opportunity to further strengthen the planning and construction of first-class courses and strive to build a number of “golden courses” with features of pharmaceutical sciences as soon as possible.
